Ahhhhh!
Dan Kunz
On my recent trip to Namibia, I experienced some of the best rest and relaxation I’ve had for quite some time. Let me explain why…
Our trip was scheduled for a little more than two full weeks. I don’t know about you, but when I travel somewhere on vacation, I almost immediately start to think about when it’s time to leave! I think I’m trying to anticipate that, so I squeeze all that’s humanly possible into the time I have. With two weeks to stay, I didn’t think much about leaving until the day drew close.
Because the hunt was in a foreign land, I was required to have a Namibian outfitter and professional hunter who provided pretty much anything and everything we would need. My friend and I each had our own cabin or room. Every day someone came a took our dirty clothes to be washed and returned. (I made my own bed out of habit, but they would have done that, too.) We had three hardy, delicious meals prepared for us every day, which included steaks from some of the animals we harvested. Our two trackers carried out and stored our gear in the truck every day. A cooler with cold drinks accompanied us on every expedition also. A refrigerator in the main lodge was accessible for beverages throughout the day. Naps were scheduled in, too!
Maybe the two best aspects, though, were a good bed and nothing about which to stress. My bed at home is a very nice one, with more gadgets and adjustments than a lot of airplanes! The bed in my cabin was just a plain single bed with a pillow and a light blanket. I slept like the proverbial “million bucks”. I had absolutely nothing to stress about! No bad dreams. No tossing and turning while thinking about “stuff”. Just wake up and pull back the blinds to some of the most glorious sunrises I’ve ever seen. The other primary reason for such rest and relaxation? My PH had everything planned. I, literally, didn’t have to think or plan for anything! All I had to do was “go with the flow”. He decided when to get up, when to eat, when to leave for the day’s hunt, how long to hunt, etc.. It was wonderful!
Wouldn’t it be great to have a full-time PH running your life? You do. His name is God, the LORD, Jehovah, Elohim, Heavenly Father, etc.. Now, God wants you to be involved too, so he doesn’t take all decisions out of your hands but allows you to make choices and either rejoice or suffer consequences, as well. The overall picture, though, is totally in his hands. He’s got this. Matthew 6:31-32 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. The “guy” who organized your trip (life), will certainly be involved on a daily, personal basis. He sent his Son as your Savior. He raised him from the dead so you could be assured of the same. He keeps the universe working just how it’s supposed to for you benefit. You have food. You have a place to sleep. You have people to share God’s Word with you. You probably have friends and relatives who care about you and want what’s best for you.
Whether rising, or retiring, or anything in between, you can breathe out an, “Ahhhh!”, and relax. Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. It’s a wonderful feeling to feel so relaxed and so loved!
