IYKYK

Dan Kunz

This morning I witnessed an amazing sight. I was hunting in an elevated deer stand in northern Missouri just as the sun was rising. Over my left shoulder, I saw the beautiful shades of orange and crimson as the brilliant ball of fire we call the sun was peeking over the tree tops. Over my right shoulder, I saw the fading silvery glow of the full moon as it slowly edged closer to the western horizon. An hour earlier it had commanded the sky, bathing everything in an ethereal light.

I immediately thought of the creator, not just of the universe, but of beauty itself! I wonder what an atheist would have thought? If all we see simply evolved, did beauty just happen? Where did our appreciation of beauty come from? Did that just happen, too?

The common acronym, IYKYK, means “If you know, you know.” In other words, you”get it”. As Christians, it could be our “mantra” for life and every part of it. “That explains everything” is another way of saying it.

Jesus pointed out the importance of knowing the most important thing this way - Matthew 16:15-16 “But what about you?” He asked. “Who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” If you know that, then you truly know everything you need to know. The rest, through the guidance of God’s Word, will fall into place: The Creator and creation - got it. The meaning of life - check. God’s plan for salvation - done. Our eventual destination - thumbs up.

In his book, 3 Words That Will Change Your Life, Mike Novotny explains the importance of what he calls “This”. Anytime you experience something good in your life (like an amazing sunrise/moonset), it should remind you of, or represent, God. Mike even expresses GOD in all caps to emphasize his grandeur.

The picture GOD painted for me this morning was spectacular, but not as spectacular as himself. If you know, you know!
